Isaiah 64:6 KJV
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
I was having a conversation with a friend yesterday about the lord and he asked me many questions which I was happy to answer but he could not come to grips with the fact that no person is good. He said that some people are good. So before I delve into this subject let’s look at the definition of the word good as it applies to a moral standard.
Good:morally excellent or admirable; virtuous; righteous: a good man. (as collective noun; preceded by the): the good.
As we read above in Isaiah, the Bible calls our righteousness is as filthy rags, so we as human beings cannot be morally, excellent, or righteous. Let us look at some other scriptures that tell us that we are not inherently good.
Mark 10:17-18 KJV
And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? [18] And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
So here we see Jesus answering the rich young ruler saying “there is none good but one, that is,God”
Romans 3:10-18 KJV
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. [12] They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. [13] Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: [14] Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: [15] Their feet are swift to shed blood: [16] Destruction and misery are in their ways: [17] And the way of peace have they not known: [18] There is no fear of God before their eyes.
There is a lot to unpack here so I will start from the beginning of this passage. again, this passage reminds us that there is none that is righteous none that is good and morally excellent. There is none that seeks after God, all of us have gone our own way. There is no one that does good. Our tongues are deceitful and full of poison. Our mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. What it means to shed blood and why our feet are swift to do it is whenever we are offended We are quick to get revenge. The Bible says we have not known the way of true peace, because there is no fear of God in us.
When people say that they are a good person test them by the 10 Commandments. Ask them have they ever told a lie? if so, that makes them a liar and in revelation 21:8 it says all liars will have their part in the lake of fire, which is the second death. This sounds harsh, but the devil is the father of lies, and the word devil literally means liar, so this is in opposition to God directly. ask them have they ever stolen something? ask them if they have ever taking Gods name in vain? Jesus said whoever looks at a woman with lust has committed adultery already, and in their heart. Ask them have they ever looked with lust? Ask them if they have ever hated somebody? The Bible says hating somebody is the same as committing murder. That’s how serious God takes hatred. If a person can be honest and answer these questions Honestly, they will soon realize that they are not as good as they think they are. Once they realize they have the sin disease and the eternal cancer of hell then you can give them the cure, which is the life-saving gospel of Jesus Christ.
So you might be asking yourself if I am not good and not capable of seeking God, how then can I be saved? number one is the father draws us to Jesus. If you are reading this article right now, the father is drawing you.
John 6:43-44 KJV
Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. [44] No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Number two is that the holy spirit convicts us of our sins.
John 16:7-9 KJV
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter(Holy Spirit)will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. [8] And when he is come, he will reprove(convict) the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: [9] Of sin, because they believe not on me;(emphasis added).
And this scripture proves that you cannot do good works and get to heaven.
Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Grace is undeserved favor. There is nothing that we can do to earn it. There are no good deeds that we can do to earn it. We are not good people. There are some people that I do consider good by my standards. But my standards are imperfect and God’s standards are perfect. His standard is perfection, and none of us fit that criteria. This is why he needed to send Jesus the perfect savior to die for the sins of the world on the cross. If anyone on this earth had actually been good, then sending Jesus to the cross would not be necessary. God shows us much grace and mercy as he waits on us to repent, and put our trust alone in Jesus for salvation. even if we sin just five times a day that would be over 100,000 sins in a lifetime. How many times would you allow someone to transgress against you before you wrote them off. Probably not that many. But God waits for you patiently with the greatest patience of any being, because he is super naturally patient more than any other person on earth.
2 Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
So we have to conclude by the Scriptures I have provided in this article that we as a human race are not good but inherently bad. So what can we do to fix this? The answer is we can’t fix this. Only by repenting, which means to turn away from our sins(Mark 1:15) and trust alone in Jesus for salvation (John 3:16) can this be fixed. you can pray a prayer like this.
Jesus, I ask you to forgive me for sinning against you time and time again. I now turn from my sins and put my trust alone in you for salvation. I thank you for saving me by your finished work on the cross and your death burial and resurrection. Where are you defeated sin and death. I thank you for dying for me and accepting me into your family in Jesus name amen.
Now, you must read the Bible daily and obey it. Start by reading. Mark 1:15 and John 3:16 these are the salvation verses. Then start in the gospel of John and work your way through the new testament. Then find a good Bible Church to attend on a regular basis so that you can learn about the word of God, and be encouraged by fellow believers. I recommend a good Baptist church.
150,000 people die each day some of them without warning. Don’t wait till tomorrow to get saved. The Bible says today is the day of salvation. Anything could happen to you in the next 24 hours. You could die in the next second. You could die from a heart attack an aneurysm you could die in a car accident you could die in your sleep. So don’t wait repent and trust in Jesus alone for salvation today right now..
