I will make this short and sweet for the sake of blog time.
The Calvinist tulip is a wildly popular man made doctrine with very little basis in scripture. I will acknowledge and critique each part of the Calvinist T.U.L.I.P
Total depravity- I agree here that we are totally depraved and no one truly seeks God.
Romans 3:10-11 KJV
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
John 6:44 KJV
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Unconditional election- this is not true because God does have conditions for election (to be saved). one of them is to repent of our sins
Mark 1:15 KJV
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel
Acts 17:30 KJV
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Limited atonement- this is also not true because God wants ALL to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
This verse says that the Lord is not willing that any should perish debunking the theory of Calvinism that believes that God chooses some to go to heaven and some to go to hell. Rather God is all knowing as far as knowing who will choose to follow him or not.
1 Peter 1:2 KJV
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
It is by Gods foreknowledge in which he knows what choice we will make before hand whether we will serve him. This is is how God predestines us.
Irresistible grace- this is also not true because God gives us free will and if this were true satan would not have fallen from heaven.
Matthew 23:37 KJV
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
This is proof of mans free will to choose to follow God or not. In this verse Jesus had a strong desire that they would repent but they refused debunking the Calvinism theory of irresistible grace.
Acts 7:51 NKJV
“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.
Perseverance of the Saints- God never promises that we will persevere but he does command us to do so.
Ephesians 6:17-18 KJV
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: [18] Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
In order to read Ephesians 6:18 in context you must first read verse 17 in which Paul is giving instructions for spiritual warfare not promising that all saints would persevere.
To be fair I am neither Arminian nor Calvinist I have my own beliefs about the Bible. I think some truth can be found in both doctrines but there are also flaws in both that would not make me live by either doctrine fully.
